Description
The purpose of this research effort was to determine the presence of Mycobacterium marinum in indoor swimming pools and to measure its resistance to chlorine levels normally found in swimming pool water. Six indoor swimming pools were sampled, using two methods for bacteriological analysis. The organism was found to be quite resistant to free, available chlorine, even in the range of 1.5 ppm. This chlorine level is well above that found in most pools and indicates that the microorganism can exist in most indoor swimming pools.
