Short Abstract

Pyrethroids are insecticides with the same biological activity as permethrins but are light and heat stable. Rhodium acetate catalyzes the synthesis of pyrethroids. The goal of this research is to understand the mode of action of rhodium acetate and to develop sturdier derivatives of permethrin insecticides that can be used in a wider variety of applications. We have synthesized a stable model of the catalyst and have studied it with precision using X-ray crystallography.
