Description

Now & Then: The Appalachian Magazine, Volume 05, Issue 03, published in 1988. The theme of this issue is Perceptions and Prescriptions in Appalachia. This issue reflects on the legacy of the War on Poverty in Appalachia through interviews, historical features, and creative works that examine institutional reform, cultural identity, and grassroots resistance. Revisiting the efforts of organizations such as the Council of the Southern Mountains alongside personal narratives of faith, education, and labor activism, it documents the evolving perceptions of poverty and the varied responses to its enduring challenges in the region.
