Description
This chapter provides a system of classification of zombie infection, with a discussion of modes of causation, along with updated recommendations for prevention and control of zombie infections associated with both the reanimated dead and the infected living in North America. The chapter does not supercede previous safety and prevention reports, the safety manual The Zombie Survival Guide (Brooks 2003), and the training film Zombieland (Fleischer 2009), but it is intended to expand on previous suggestions for control, eradication and removal, along with additional suggestions for detection, testing, vaccination and treatment. These recommendations are based on the possibilities for multiple modes of infection coupled with appropriate principles of infection control and accumulating evidence based on the fact that most infections will result from direct physical contact with infected humans. Indirect infections from other sources will be discussed briefly where appropriate. The recommendations contain updated specific measures for limiting exposure to zombies, methods of eliminating zombie infestations and new possibilities for outbreak control.
