Description
While the literature on catatonia due to a general medical condition (CDGMC) is replete with cases of catatonia with an ascribed medical condition, in this chapter we are able to identify a case of catatonia due to Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) from the initial presentation of catatonia to post-mortem analysis. In general the reports of CDGMC are brief and reference similar cases. However, in our case of catatonia due to CJD we attempt to identify etiology, treatment and neurochemical mechanism. This chapter will identify these elements as they relate to the DSM-5 diagnosis of 293.89 and ICD code F 06.1 catatonia due to CJD.
