Description
Urinary tract infections have great significance during pregnancy owing to their prevalence and potential for complications. Although pregnancy does not increase the risk of bacteriuria, it does increase the risk of pyelonephritis. Routine screening with urine cultures on all initial prenatal visits can reduce substantially the potential for pyelonephritis during pregnancy, thereby decreasing morbidity for mother and infant.
