Description
Fuzzy expert systems can be used on a large-scale basis in the real world, provided the quality and reliability of these systems are assured by their developers. One significant technique that developers can use to assure the reliability and quality of fuzzy expert system is coverage analysis, a technique used for verification and validation in software engineering. A description of verification and validation in the development of conventional software and the role of coverage analysis within those approaches to software quality assurance are described. Following this, the use of coverage analysis in the development of fuzzy-rule-based expert systems is examined. Finally, the experience from the application of coverage analysis to a knowledge base for a fuzzy-rule-based expert system is presented.
