Description
Thirty, mature, male armadillos (Dasypus novemcinctus) were captured from the wild and maintained in captivity for variable periods of time (> 3-16 months). Blood samples were taken weekly by femoral venipuncture and plasma was analyzed by radioimmunoassay for testosterone concentration. Testosterone concentration varied between 9 and 14 ng/ml during the year. Blood was collected every 4 h for 24 h from four animals during mid-July to examine diurnal variation in testosterone concentration. Fluctuations were not apparent.
