Description
The environment is a key determinant of public health. Environmental health practice, with its 20 or more program areas, combats and controls the causative agents of disease before they can reach the populus, thereby reducing human suffering and death. Effective environmental health programs, therefore , not only improve the quality of life but also save money by keeping people out of doctors' offices, drugstores and hospitals. At present, however, these programs do not receive adequate funding. If the public and its elected officials were more aware of the sighifiance of environmental healt hin the health care system, would they demand more support for these programs?
