Description
Thioridazine (Mellaril) hydrochloride was found in human retina and choroid by high-performance liquid chromatography. To our knowledge, this report is the first such study to assess quantitatively the presence of thioridazine in the human eye. Drug uptake occurred in the normal-appearing eye and was higher in the choroid than in the retina. Moreover, uptake occurred while the patient was taking a “safe” dose of thioridazine and when serum levels of thioridazine were within the nontoxic range.
