Description
Evidence is presented to show that intramolecular catalysis of ester aminolysis is possible in a nonhydroxylic solvent and that the required acid-base catalytic species can be derived from the reactants themselves. This evidence is used in support of a new concept of the structure and function of the active sites of certain classes of enzymes.
