Description
In supply chain research, there is a need to better understand the implications of alternative logistics strategies upon system-wide performance. This paper uses a multi-echelon simulation model to examine the impact that asset distribution rules have upon system performance. When the system's equilibrium is disrupted, seven alternative logistics strategies are compared under three different asset distribution rules. In the given scenario, after the scheduled flights are doubled the bases are able to generate approximately 50% more sorties, however, the number of grounded aircraft increases as more failed assets traverse the repair pipelines. Furthermore, in this case, altering the underlying logistics strategy has a more significant logistics impact than modifying the basic asset distribution rule.
