Abstract

This rumination is a capstone reflection iterating the importance of brand identity when designing, and how good design is directly tied to successful events. The author reflects their personal journey through working in the industry, to their time working for an academic institution designing events for students pursuing higher education. Directly correlating their experience as a Digital Designer at a marketing firm, the author talks about the foundation that makes an event successful through measured means of defining identity, recognition, and maintaining a consistent, professional brand. Within this paper, the author highlights some of their experience in large-scale event orchestration, as well as student milestone events that created a deeper sense of community within the institution.

As part of their fulfilment for their Master of Fine Arts requirement, the author dives into the newest brand identity for their program’s anniversary event, which encapsulates student experience and highlighting work over the years. As a visual example of these terms, the work presented in this research paper highlight the decisions made that fit the narrative for what makes an event truly unique.

This paper would ideally benefit personnel within various roles of higher education that are looking for solutions to gauge other methods of successful student retention, or those that are curious of what makes an event successful, regardless of target audience.
