Short Abstract

This study investigates the challenges women-owned small businesses in Johnson City, Tennessee have overcome. Data was collected through semi-structured 10 interviews of women-owned small businesses in the area. The data displays that women struggle with similar challenges as men do; however, they have more difficulty balancing expectations and owning a business. This research concludes that men and women do not have equal opportunities when it comes to owning a small business and women are at a disadvantage.
