Abstract

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 5, 2022) – The unfolding crisis in Ukraine continues to hold the world’s attention and generate questions about the conflict, forces and ideas propelling it. On Tuesday, April 12, a panel of experts from East Tennessee State University will assemble to address questions from the public and provide vital context.

The event, free and open to the public, happens at 7 p.m. in room 311 on the third floor of the D.P. Culp Student Center.

“This will provide an engaging opportunity for members of the public to get important questions answered by scholars who are intimately familiar with these issues,” said Dr. Tom Lee, an associate professor of history and one of the event’s main organizers.

Here is a look at the panel:

  • Dr. Henry Antkiewicz. A professor in ETSU’s History Department, Antkiewicz has a wide range of academic specialties. Those include Russia, Poland, China, Japan, Tanzania and Zambia. He earned a Ph.D. from Ohio State University.
  • Dr. Stephen G. Fritz. A professor in ETSU’s History Department, Fritz is an expert in German history. His award-winning books cover German military history during the 20th century. Historians lauded his most recent book, “The First Soldier: Hitler as Military Leader.”
  • Dr. Michele Crumley. An associate professor in the Department of Political Science, International Affairs and Public Administration, Crumley teaches courses on international relations, international organizations and law and comparative politics. She also offers courses on a range of other topics, including government and politics in Russia and East Europe.
