Abstract

Smith of the Department of Sport, Exercise, Recreation and Kinesiology at East Tennessee State University will share her experiences and upcoming research project in “Women’s Soccer: A Creative Opportunity” at noon on Wednesday, March 23, via Zoom. This free virtual talk is part of the “Women on Wednesdays” series sponsored by the ETSU Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program.
Drawing on her experiences working in professional women’s soccer, Smith will explore the current state of women’s soccer on a global scale and introduce her New Zealand-based research project taking place during the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Her research focuses on the role of creativity in uniquely leveraging women’s sporting events. Her research on the 2023 Women’s World Cup will explore the relationship between perceived constraints and creative process for the Women’s World Cup local organizing committees and stakeholders.
An associate professor, Smith serves as the graduate coordinator for the Athletics Administration and Esports Management Graduate Certificate programs. In addition, Smith is chair of Marketing and Communications for the North American Society of Sport Management and a member of the Clemmer College’s Race, Diversity and Inclusion Task Force and ETSU Graduate Council. Smith recently co-authored a book on organizational behavior in sport management and has published numerous related articles.
