Abstract
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Students interested in a career in medicine now have a new pathway to achieve that goal thanks to two articulation agreements between East Tennessee State University and Carteret Community College that expand advanced degree opportunities offered 100% online.
The agreement provides students who achieve an Associate of Applied Science degree in Medical Assisting or Science Radiography at Carteret Community College, located in Morehead City, North Carolina, with the opportunity to transfer those credits to ETSU to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree.
“Classes in the Bachelor of Science in Allied Health Leadership and Radiologic Science programs are offered 100% online. Both programs are designed to give students an opportunity to obtain their degree while working full time,” said Dr. Ester L. Verhovsek-Hughes, chair of ETSU’s Department of Allied Health Sciences.
Classes are designed with an interprofessional approach to learning where students can apply their knowledge to growing health care fields.
“It provides avenues for our graduates to advance in their careers and opens doors for leadership roles in their places of employment,” said Elaine Postawa, chair of Carteret Community College’s Radiography program.
ETSU prepares the health care workforce for a variety of careers by offering more than 40 world-class programs in five health sciences colleges.
“The Medical Assisting program is thrilled to partner with East Tennessee State University in providing the online Bachelor of Science degree in Allied Health Leadership,” said Carteret Community College’s Medical Assisting program chair, Vonda R. Godette.
