Abstract
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 1, 2022) – The Department of Media and Communication at East Tennessee State University, in conjunction with the College of Arts and Sciences Council of Equity and Inclusion, will present a free media skills workshop by Karen Noble, casting executive, on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at 7 p.m. via Zoom.
Noble has managed casting for ABC Television Group and the Walt Disney Company. Her workshop will offer advice for casting films and working with talent. Along with demystifying the inner workings of the casting world, Noble’s workshop will cover ways to consider equity and inclusion when searching for actors.
“I believe television and film should more accurately reflect the world around us,” Noble said. “Representation matters. Entertainment has the power to help us recognize and celebrate what makes us different and what makes us the same. I am excited to introduce this filmmaking community to the casting process via this inclusive lens.”
Noble is an entertainment industry veteran with 17 years of experience from television to live, themed entertainment. With expertise in talent development, diversity, equity and inclusion, she is a seasoned producer of diversity talent initiatives.
“We are thrilled that Karen Noble will be able to talk with our students and our film community in this accessible workshop format,” said Shara Lange, the head of the Radio/Television/Film program of the Department of Media and Communication. “She has had extensive experience working with actors as a casting director that will be invaluable to people working in media as well as actors who want to learn more about the industry.”
This workshop is co-presented by Indie Media Arts South, The Tennessee Entertainment Commission and The Northeast Tennessee Entertainment Alliance, a nonprofit organization committed to building entertainment production in northeast Tennessee. Indie Media Arts South is a regional organization that works to support filmmakers and arts organizations across the greater South.
