Short Abstract
The term linguistic landscapes refers to the study and analysis of displayed language on signage in public spaces. Language is a vital aspect of life. It is a way of shaping personal identities and preserving history and customs within cultures. Therefore, it is crucial to preserve linguistic diversity. In the realm of public signage, linguistic diversity promotes inclusivity and makes information available to a wider audience than what is limited by monolingual signage. The purpose of this research project is to analyze multilingual signage in medical centers in the Tri-Cities, an area with little diversity. Regardless of language spoken, every individual requires medical attention at some point. However, accessibility may be limited to non-English speakers. This research project aims to observe the presence or lack of multilingual signage in the area and bring awareness to the importance of linguistic diversity.
