Lights, Responsibility, & Preparation: How the Barter Theatre Prepares Students for the Professional World
Abstract
My decision to focus on the Barter Theatre as my honors thesis was a relatively simple decision. Since its founding in 1933, the Barter Theatre has changed the lives of many, especially those in Appalachia. Growing up in Lebanon, Virginia, just 20 minutes away, the Barter Theatre was my first exposure to the arts and what is now my major. Through completion of this project, I will document my first-hand experiences as a Barter Theatre Lighting Intern in addition to testimonials from past interns. I aim to inspire others to take a similar step to prepare themselves for the post-graduation job field.
