Abstract

A collection of photographs titled Renewal is currently being exhibited at the Reece Museum. It consists of 32 photographs, sixteen of which were photographed by MFA photography alum Katie Sheffield. Many of the photographs include images of buildings that are now only Elizabethton legends, such as the old Lynnwood Hotel and the hole in the wall Sammons Market. At the core of the exhibit is 16 photographs that were shot in 1969, when the city’s Department of Planning and Development was working to obtain federal money to conduct urban renewal projects in the downtown area. The exhibition will be on display until July, 20. There will be a panel discussion and reception from 5-7 pm on Thursday, July 12, 2018.
