Hi All,
The main weather and climate stories for Tennessee in June 2026 were several rounds of heavy rainfall that produced flash flooding in different parts of the state. Early in the month slow moving storms produced heavy downpours in different parts of the state from June 7 to 14 including areas in or around Knoxville, Nashville, and Memphis, as well as portions of Henry, Weakley, and Carroll counties in northwestern Tennessee. Four different locations across the state reported daily rainfall records between these dates.
Later in the month, more widespread heavy rains impacted southern sections of West and Middle Tennessee on June 22-23, with 12 daily rainfall records set across the state these days. However, there were minimal reports of flash flooding with these storms. Another storm system brought heavy rainfall and flash flooding to northern parts of the Cumberland Plateau and East Tennessee on June 28-29. These storms set up across central portions of Kentucky and then moved south and east into Tennessee with storms training over the same area and producing 3-8-inches of rainfall from Saturday into Sunday. Unfortunately, this led to deadly flash flooding with four fatalities reported in Kentucky and one fatality reported in Grainger County Tennessee. The heavy rainfall also triggered a rockslide that closed state-route 90 in Campbell County. There were 9 daily rainfall records set on June 28 or 29, three of which set the monthly record for the highest 1-day rainfall total in the month of June at that weather station.
