In 2018, ETSU created a committee to review the general education requirements of the university and determine goals for a successful renewal process. Goals of the committee included:
- To define essential competencies to be attained by all ETSU undergraduate students, as well as assessments of each competency on which faculty and others can act.
- To define clear purposes and learning outcomes for each general education block requirement that are appropriate and meaningful for all ETSU undergraduate students.
- To affirm best practices in teaching general education courses.
- To confirm that all general education courses, whether established or new, advance our purposes, address agreed upon learning outcomes, and reflect best teaching practices.
- To revise as necessary the charge and membership of ETSU’s General Education Advisory Council.
